How to invite people to a shared household
Set up a household, invite up to 3 people and share one shopping list, meal plan and pantry. Your own household needs the Family plan; joining one is free.
A Household brings together up to 4 people — you and three others. “Members share one shopping list, meal plan and pantry.” Everyone keeps their own account.
Setting up your own household needs the Family plan. Joining a household someone invites you to is free, on any plan.
Set up a household
- On the phone open More → Household, in the browser Settings → Household.
- Enter a Household name, e.g. “The Smiths”.
- Tap Create household.
Your current shopping list, plan and pantry move into the household — and stay there if you ever leave it.
Invite members
- In Household, tap Invite.
- In the Invite a member window, enter an email address and send.
- You’ll see “Invitation sent”, and the invitation appears under Sent invitations with its expiry date.
If the person doesn’t have an account yet, they’ll get an email with a code for their first sign-in (see the article on creating an account).
Once the household has 4 people, you’ll see “The household is full — no more people can join.”
Accept an invitation
The invited person opens Household and, under Invitations (“From …”), chooses Join or Decline.
Your recipes stay yours
“Your recipes stay yours — members only see the ones you share with them.” In a recipe, turn on Share with household. Members will see it, but only you can edit it.
Changes to the household
- Rename — a new name for the household.
- Remove from household — the owner can remove a member. Shared things stay in the household, and that person starts with an empty list, plan and pantry.
- Leave household — you leave and start from empty. When the owner leaves, ownership passes to the longest-standing member.
When the Family plan ends
The household and accounts stay. Only the sharing stops — everyone sees their own list, plan and pantry. Renew the plan and everything is shared again.
